Dear Friends

Belated greetings to you all from Spain, where in the space of a weekend we jumped straight from late summer to early winter. We are sorry for the delay since our last letter. So much has happened since the last Hills’ Happenings it’s hard to know where to begin…

Thomas had a very profitable time in Wales improving his English – so much so that he wants to go back next year, and is also beginning to teach English conversation to supplement his income. The rest of us enjoyed our time in Northern Ireland and England. On our return it was straight into preparation for children’s camp. Over fifty children and young teenagers attended, and the Lord helped Judith and I greatly with our different responsibilities. After camp Jacob had to turn his attention to his re-sits – he managed to pass two of the three so was able to move up a year. He wanted to study Electronics this year but because of lack of students he has had to make do with Catering. Thomas has opted for languages so is now coming to terms with Latin and Greek, as well as keeping on with English and French. The family’s involvement with the Gospel choir continues: Judith sings and is secretary, Jacob works on the audio-visual side, Matt is the chaplain, and Thomas has just passed the audition to sing as a bass. It’s nice to be involved all together as a family. The next concert is on the 5th of November in Linares.

We mentioned in our last letter the problems of space at church, and some possible solutions. The way ahead still seems unclear, with none of the options appearing to be ideal, and committing to a financial undertaking in the present economic climate is not something to be done lightly. Please pray for wisdom.

On the subject of property, we need new tenants for our flat in Cuenca at the end of the year. It has really made a big difference having the extra income, so we are praying that there will not be much of a delay in finding new tenants.

Matt’s work with the Grace Bible College continues, with a steady stream of enquiries from potential students – seven new students have been admitted this autumn already, with more in the pipeline. It’s good to see that there is a desire in the churches to study God’s word and grow in grace and understanding.

The Hymnbook continues and publication draws ever nearer although it seems to be the final details that take most time. Once publication takes place we can then advance more rapidly with the music edition.

The work at Editorial Peregrino (Pilgrim Publications) continues to be varied and interesting. The recession is making it’s presence felt, but for the present we are able to keep our heads above water. We have just signed a deal to have our books distributes in North and South America which we trust will be beneficial for both our readers and our accountants!!

Matt continues to have preaching engagements both in and out of the church, Judith teaches in Sunday School, and both of us help out with the music when needed. What with attending men’s and ladies’ meetings, evangelism, and preacher’s class, there’s little chance of being bored.

Thank you for your continued interest in the work here in Spain.

In Christ

Matt, Judith, Thomas and Jacob
