Cuenca is a city of 50,000 inhabitants situated midway between Madrid and Valencia in the autonomous region of Castilla La Mancha. The hilly city dates from the 13th century and is situated on the River Jucar, with winding narrow streets which make it popular with artists and tourists. Juan de Valdes, one of Spain's most famous sons of the Reformation, was born in Cuenca. |
